EyesOn Design Car Show

Automotive Design Exhibition

EyesOn Design is one of America’s premier automotive events. Each year, the event attracts members of the transportation design community, collectors, and the general public to celebrate and reflect on design. Vehicles are chosen based on the year’s theme by invitation only, and between 200 and 300 vehicles are at the show on Father’s Day. In addition, EyesOn Design features special exhibitions and concept and production vehicles which debuted during the previous year’s auto show circuit, including ones which were awarded at EyesOn Design at the North American International Auto Show.

EyesOn Design receives its support from both domestic and foreign vehicle manufacturers, as well as automotive suppliers and other loyal companies. Judging is facilitated by active and retired exterior and interior designers from leading automotive and supplier companies. In its twenty-fifth year, EyesOn Design is a benefit for the Detroit Institute of Ophthalmology, an internationally-recognized non-profit which accelerates the development of “artificial vision” — technology which will one day allow some blind and visually impaired persons to regain the vision to see the world around them, including seeing the designs of automobiles.

The Location

One of America’s most magnificent estates, the Edsel & Eleanor Ford House in Grosse Pointe Shores, Michigan serves as the perfect venue for EyesOn Design. Designed by celebrated landscape designer Jens Jensen, the Ford House grounds beautifully frame the automotive design.

Tours of the house and grounds are available during EyesOn Design. For more information, please go to fordhouse.org.

The Awards

With its emphasis on automotive design, past, present and future, EyesOn Design is the only show of its kind in the world. Judging is accomplished by individual automotive designers and/or teams of active and retired exterior and interior designers from leading automotive and supplier companies. Driven by a passion for automotive design, these distinguished men and women have generously volunteered their services to EyesOn Design.

History

Twenty-five years ago, Eyes On the Classics began with the support of the Detroit Three design vice presidents, Chuck Jordan of General Motors, Jack Telnack of Ford, and Tom Gale of Chrysler with the unique premise that cars be judged based on their designs instead of the quality of their preservation. After changing its name, gaining the support of global vehicle manufacturers, and raising important funds for the Detroit Institute of Ophthalmology, EyesOn Design continues the important tradition of celebrating transportation design.
